COUNT
COUNT
This exercise is a quick way to suppress the internal dialogue. I modified it from one I found in Franz Bardon’s Initiation Into Hermetics.
Sit down in a comfortable chair. Don’t play tapes or music.
Close your eyes and count silently to yourself. The count is quite slow. Start at One and allow several seconds of silence to elapse between each number.
The rule of the count is that there can be no words in your mind except the numbers. You may have sensations, feelings, impressions, etc.—anything as long as you do not say words to yourself.
A mantra is a word. You can’t say a mantra during this exercise. You may not fill your mental space with multiple repetitions of the numbers: “OneOneOneOneOneTwoTwoTwoTwoTwo…” breaks the rule of the count.
Your count is the highest number you can get to before the word factory in the back of your mind squirts some words into your awareness. Try to keep this from happening.
The count measures a skill that is not taught in our culture. People vary widely in their first count. The number is not an indication of your intelligence, psi capability or future achievement. It’s simply a measure of where you are at the moment.
Now, at a convenient time, try the count again. This time imagine that you are sinking down between the numbers into a warm, dark, safe space, rising up only enough to think the next number. Enjoy the count. Most people find the dark space relaxing and pleasurable.
With a little practice in the count you will be able to suppress the internal dialogue and enter into an alert, psi-capable state very quickly.
The state I refer to is one in which you have complete autonomy. It is not a trance state, and you are no more suggestible than you would be in an ordinary state of mind.
The difference between this state and ordinary awareness is larger than it seems. If you are using the state to do work, such as remote viewing, it is advisable to count yourself back to ordinary awareness.
That is done this way: when you finish your work silently tell yourself “On the count of five I will return to ordinary awareness. I will remember everything.” Imagine yourself slowly drifting back to ordinary reality.
“Four. Returning.”
“Three. Return and remember.”
“Two. Returning.”
“One. Return, remember and open your eyes.”
I recommend that you cultivate the habit of making an orderly return from a deep psi-conducive state.
